Present: Cathy Ayers, Martina Miller, Jonny Handley and Moira Edington

Apologies were received from Stuart Ayers, Hilda Dobson and Mike Phillipson

Matters arising from the previous meeting held on 11th August 2015.

Adopt a Pot

Cathy advised that despite efforts to replant some of the pots along The Green, rabbits continue to destroy the flowers. It was agreed that only evergreen shrubs would be used and review again in Spring.

Thank you to all the helpers, cake donations and supporters. A farewell to Anna and Chris Corbett followed the Coffee morning. Special thanks to Hilly who kindly provided numerous salad bowls and dishes. See photos on village website (thanks Mike). Anna was presented with a Gardening gift voucher as a thank you for many years of support given to The Reading Room. We wish them good luck in their new home.

Village Fair Sunday 30th August 2015

Our Village Fair was a huge success as we raised £800.50 minus expenses. Thanks to all our wonderful and hard working volunteers including, cake makers, stall holders, donations for Tombola/Raffle/Plants, and family members and friends, of some of which travelled some distance to lend a helping hand. Special thanks to all Volunteers who ran the Afternoon Tea and Ice cream sales especially Moira’s family members, Jonny and friend who kept the BBQ going for over 6 hours, Julie who made up approx. 16 jugs of PIMMS (a winning recipe), the exquisite range of cakes from our cake bakers, Hilly who rallied around to borrow the Coconut Shy (courtesy of Finghall) and Big Tent (courtesy of the Caravan Park) and many prizes, the outside companies who donated superb Raffle prizes, Hilly/Moira/Jonny for tackling the task of purchasing all the shopping required, all our residents who gave many hours of their time to ensure the day was a success, Mike for producing posters and photos for the website and Keith Loadman for the bales of straw. Well Done to you all.

It was a fun and relaxed day and the weather remained fine. We were pleased to welcome many visitors as well as My Wyvill and family members who particularly enjoyed the Pot smashing stall. Mr Wyvill kindly hosted the Raffle and we hope he enjoyed his 70th Birthday.

This year we held a Scarecrow Trail/Treasure Hunt whereby many residents produced and displayed some highly creative Scarecrows including a huge straw owl which has been donated to The Reading Room.

Committee Membership

Currently, we are a very small team and concerns were raised as to the future of the Reading Room. Over the past few years The Reading Room has hosted numerous highly successful and enjoyable events and we hope to have many more. We now need new committee members to come on board. If you have been a member in the past and would like to offer your help again and bring your ideas to the table we would love to hear from you. Maybe you are a new resident to the Village and have some spare time to offer. The committee meets once a month for approximately 1 hour. It is an ideal opportunity to meet residents and get involved. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday 13th October at 7 p.m, in The Reading Room.

Coming Up!

Saturday 31st October 2015, 4 p.m onwards

Halloween Event – Bring and Share a Meal, Pumpkin Competition, Trick/Treat trail and much more

FULL Details to follow soon.

Free Pudding and a drink to all attendees to say thank you for supporting The Reading Room events.

Any Other Business

A discussion took place regarding an increase in traffic in and around the Village. Many vehicles have been spotted speeding and driving without due care along Station Road. There are more families with children in our Village now. Next month we will see the start of the Shooting season which brings in more traffic. We urge all our residents to take special care at this time and to report any dangerous driving to the Parish Council or the Police. We intend to put up some new signs around The Green in the hope to raise awareness. If you have any ideas on improving safety measures please get in touch.

The meeting closed at 8.15 p.m
