Reading Room Minutes – 23rd December 2014

Reading Room Meeting 23rd December 2014

Apologies: Mike, John, Anna, Hilly.

Present: Cathy, Stewart, Dawn.

Matters arising: As we haven’t had a meeting for sometime this is catch up time. We didn’t have a coffee morning in November as there was nobody available to run it. We have taken delivery of the new lawnmower which will be in use next season, the old one is to be kept as backup and for light use if needed.

The Halloween party went well both for the childrens section and for the later adults party thanks to all who came and contributed .It was also an oportunity to welcome our new residents Josie and Peter

The coffee morning in December was enjoyed by those who could make it thanks to Anna for the mince pies and running it with helpers

The Artists managed to meet about four times in the last couple of months they are looking for anyone who would like to join them please contact Margaret Topliss if you are interested.

Some sad news that Mary Farnell has recently died, she was a key part of the Penhill Painters and a renowned artist in the dales; she supported our events in the village when she could and will be sadly missed.

Treasures Report: Covering November/December: Room hire generated £72 for events Halloween raised £138.20 with a raffle and December coffee morning raised £39.80 and £40 from Artists meetings. Our outgoings were more in this period due to expenses of Oil £288.49 still at the low prices,Water and Electric bills amounting to£128.75 combined other expenses amounting to £124.23 including lawnmower, chimney sweep,Halloween party coffee morning expenses.

Coming events: Our new resident, Josie, is running a Yoga class and we hope that people will join in the new year; details to follow.

The New Years Eve party would be an impromptu event as last year, if anyone is interested in coming let Cathy, Hilly Anna know .It would be bring a dish on the take and share supper evening starting a 8pm till ? And bring own bottle.

Coffee morning in January see notice board.

Any other business: As you can see the green is in turmoil hopefully longterm the new drainage will improve the condition. Meanwhile if you feel like raking in the trenches please do take care of your own safety on the green. The area will be rolled in the spring by the estate and Keith Loadman has kindly offered to remove any surplus soil when weather conditions are right.

Suggestion to look at replacing the front door has come up and researching into cost of this or refurbishing same it will be looked at in the new year.

We are as a committee are aproaching that time of year to look for new members and officers to join us so have a think if you could spend some time to keep the reading room going and the village events alive please let us know if you are interested.

Next meeting: To be arranged in January
